Turkey’s Assimilation of the Kurds Policy: Its Official!

From Kurdish Info.

Hasan Cemal : Let us see if Prime Minister Erdogan will become an exception or not?

Our paper Milliyet wrote yesterday some interesting news that may pave the way to discussions.Maybe this will be something good because the mistakes, especially by the state, during the last 80 years in relation to the Kurdish question will then be more clarified.

An important development in the world of journalism that Can Dundar and Ridvan Akar witnessed to shows how the military coup in 1960 was a rejection of the Kurds and the Kurdish question.

The Cabinet of the military coup prepared a report that became an important letter of decisions and signed by a colonel, were sent to the coalition of AP-CHP under the chairman of Ismet Inonu.

During that time Ecevit was Minister of Employment.

The leaders of the military coup put the report into the archives and now 47 years later the report is being revealed.

The report rejects the Kurds and the Kurdish question. But in reality the report reveals the Kurdish question and the Kurds in Turkey. The report seeks to achieve assimilation. The report wants the Kurds to be forcedly cut off from relations with all their roots and their language and this way their identity shall be annihilated.

It is very obvious that the politics of assimilation that have been the main politics of the state. From the leaders of the military coup of 27 May.

Another important aspect of the report is that the Kurds shall be forced by the state to leave their homes in the Southeast and it continues as follows:

”In the region Turks shall be placed in order to ‘make those who believe that they are Kurds’ into Turks and Turks from the Black Sea shall be replaced in the region so that Kurds shall be convinced to leave for places that are economically better and through this way more Turks will be placed everywhere.” The report continues as follows:

It is very obvious that politics of assimilation that have been the main politics of the state, was seeing as not very much from the leaders of the military coup of 27 of May.

”Those who think that they are Kurds in Turkey shall be disconnected from the Kurds in Iran and Iraq and they shall be replaced systematically. The academics and intellectuals shall be convinced that there is no Kurdish question in Turkey.”

”A Turkish Institute connected to a university shall be established and those who think that they are Kurds will be convinced that they are Turks and this work shall continue.”

”Different kinds of schools shall be established and girl and boy missionaries shall be put into practice and people living in the region shall be assimilated at an early stage and offered many opportunities.”

Saying or writing more things is baseless. This is the mentality that is deepening more the Kurdish question in Turkey.

This is the mentality that is paving the way for the PKK, terror and the violence to deteriorating in Turkey.

This is the mentality that is postponing the arrival of democracy in Turkey.

This is the mentality that is spending the money on war instead of economic developments.

This mentality is not new and it has been put into practice since the establishment of the Republic. This mentality is born from ‘Turkish nationalism’ that is annihilating the Kurds in order to establish a state-union.

This mentality was fed by coups and on 12th September 1980 gained more strength.

The army is the real leader of these politics. The army has since 80 years ago monopolised the Kurdish question and sometimes is working together with the politicians, sometimes taking the initiative.

I don’t remember that any of the Prime Ministers of Turkey (the late Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit included) have worked differently.

Let us see if Prime Minister Erdogan will become an exception to this set up or not?

*The secret documents that are being published by Milliyet, will son bee published by Can Dundar and Ridvan Akar as a book named ‘Ecevit and his secret archive,’ through Imge Publishing House.
