Rojda Famous Kurdish Singer. Detained in Turkey for Singing in Kurdish!

Rojda Şenses, a popular singer of Kurdish origin, has been taken into custody for singing in Kurdish a year ago in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, daily Milliyet reported Friday.

Şenses went to the police and testified in court, even though she was invited to meet with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to discuss the government’s Kurdish opening. The singer was accused of making propaganda for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK.

Erdoğan invited 20 popular art figures to meet and discuss the move to resolve the Kurdish issue. Among the popular figures in attendance were Sezen Aksu, İbrahim Tatlıses, Kenan İmirzalıoğlu, Yılmaz Erdoğan and Tarık Akan.
