>AKP Smash ‘Peace Tents’! Kurds "We Will Rebuild Them!"

>At 2am this morning the Turkish police and security agents carried out a planned simultaneous operation to attack and destroy the ‘Democratic Solution’ tents erected by the Kurdish people as part of the Civil Disobedience Campaign for basic rights in Turkey.

Raids were carried out in Batman, Dersim, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Bingol, Antep, Sirnak, Siirt, Silopi, Kiziltepe, Nusaybin, Idil, Cizre, Van Dogubayazit, Bulanik, Varto, Malazgirt, Adana, Mersin, Izmir, Manisa and Igdir.
With initial reports still coming through but hundreds of detentions have taken place with many injured including Ferhat Tunc, a famous Kurdish singer and one of the candidates for the election.
Coming after the response to the 35 detentions yesterday in Hakkari, the AKP are clearly escalating the situation in Turkey and Kurdistan to dangerous levels and must be held responsible for any consequences of this declaration of war on the Kurdish people.
The AKP are using the mass detentions to try to weaken the BDP’s influence in the upcoming general elections.
Salih Yildiz, BDP’s Independent candidate said in reaction to the Hakkari detentions

“The goverment has been arresting Kurdish political actvists for years. These arrests are an attempt by the government to curb our influence in Colemerg (Hakkari) and this is because it know that in the June elections it won’t be able to gain the vote of the Kurds!”

BDP Cizre District President, Esat Malkuc said

“This attack is an attack on the Kurdish issue and an attempt to find a democratic solution. About 500 police came and removed the tent. We condemn this action by the AKP we will establish a tent again.”

Kurdish people are responding to the closures of the tents all over Turkey and Kurdistan. Many are being rebuilt while at others thousands of people hearing of the news are arriving and carrying out sit ins while the situation is still developing!
